Information Technology Jobs Market Overview
We are seeing more clients than ever who have the experience and knowledge to implement networks, but not the qualification to prove it. This makes finding a new job difficult if not impossible. In difficult times people look for proof of expertise; during any downturn in IT there tends to be what the analysts call a 'flight to quality'. It's the right move to get MCSE certified now, and if you're even just moderately concerned about your job, you need to get serious. If you don't think things are bad, just try applying to a few job sites and you will see what we mean.

We seriously encourage you to make a plan for your career now. Set goals for yourself and start working on them. If you have any questions about IT training and certifications call us today on 0151 677 3267.

The E-skills UK Quarterly Review of the ICT Labour Market for Q4, 08, stated that the latest information on skills shortage vacancies was for Q4.07, at which point in time the incidence of ICT related skills shortages (a lack of applicants with the required skills, qualifications or experience) was on the increase - rising from 17% of ICT recruiters in Q4.06 to 31% in Q4.07.

Skills shortages during Q4.07 were most commonly reported by firms recruiting to fill positions in support/maintenance, systems/software design/development and ICT management.

The UK economy will require an average of 141,000 new IT professionals every year for the next four years (Technology Counts IT & Telecoms Insights 2008, e-skills UK, January 2008).

This Month's Jargon Buster
Hyper-threading (officially termed Hyper-Threading Technology or HTT) is an Intel-proprietary technology used to improve parallelization of computations performed on PC microprocessors via simultaneous multithreading. It is an improvement on super-threading.

It debuted in U.S. Patent 4,847,755 (Gordon Morrison et al.) and can be seen in use on the Intel Xeon, Pentium 4 and Atom processors. The technology improves processor performance under certain workloads by providing useful work for execution units that would otherwise be idle, for example during a cache miss. A processor with Hyper-Threading enabled is treated by the operating system as two processors instead of one.

Hyper-threading relies on support in the operating system as well as the CPU. Conventional multiprocessor support is not enough to take advantage of hyper-threading. For example, even though Windows 2000 supports multiple CPUs, Intel does not recommend that hyper-threading be enabled under that operating system.
