Fortunately the IT industry hasn't been hit as hard...yet. The downside is that, according to the Forrester group, employers are leaning heavily on certifications to make their staffing decisions. Uncertified and under certified applicants are being employed at a much lower rate. Experts say that getting properly certified now is the safest way to keep your current job or gain a new position.

Economists say the cuts are especially frightening because they reach across industries, threatening the job security of millions; economists are now predicting unemployment, currently 1.8 million, could well hit 3 million at some stage this year.
This week the Recruitment and Employment Confederation is expected to confirm the jobs market has "hit a wall" in its respected monthly survey. Nearly two thirds of recruitment companies questioned - 60 per cent - thought their clients, who include some of Britain's biggest companies, will cut between 5 per cent and 20 per cent of their staff this year.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development last week forecast that 600,000 jobs will be lost during 2009, with the majority of companies expected to freeze their workforces' pay. This equates to a job going every 52 seconds.
